My interest in Westerns intensified when BR announced that they were to be withdrawn from service. Sadly I couldn't afford to buy tickets and film and so I made the decision to spend the last days of the Western by travelling behind them.

At the end of the Western era, my photography came back to the forefront and by now I had my own transport, a motorbike. I travelled around the country photographing BR mainline diesels. My photography expanded into other fields such as places of interest, wildlife, classic car events and motorcycle competition events.

I later became a volunteer at the Severn Valley Railway, restoring and working on steam locomotives and also photographing at the SVR and on other preserved railways, as well as British Rail main lines.

I found out that D1015 Western Champion was back on the mainline and discovered that a lot of long lost railway mates had spent over 20 years restoring it. I was invited to join the Diesel Traction Group and help keep D1015 on the mainline.
